The man is carrying a sleeping woman, and the woman is carrying a sleeping man on the head, like a dog which is asleep curled up at the feet of his boss. The Puppy has often been used, in the history of painting, as a symbol of loyalty. As it is used in this sculpture as a symbolic merging of man; faith in freedom and equality.

In 1998 the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment, Department of emancipation, awarded the Joke Smit Prize to “SIDE – Feminist monthly magazineā€. In honor of this occasion, this statuette was presented to the editor, Ciska Dresselhuys.
